Himalayan details

ABOUT THESE IMAGES

In the spring of 2018 I spent five weeks in India, in the Himalayan foothills of Uttarakhand state, just west of Nepal. (For a full explanation of what I was doing there, see the text accompanying my Himalayan Hill People gallery.)

Besides the expected landscape and portrait images I went for, I came back with a lot more closeups of details from Indian village and small town life than I anticipated (or was conscious of having shot): images of food and tools and the thousand small objects that furnish and ornament even as hard and impoverished a place as the Himalayan hill country—and especially images of people’s hands, using the things that make up their world.

Some of these compositions could appear just as well in my gallery of Natural Abstracts.
